Take This 5-Minute Smile Quiz

How much do you know about your teeth and gums? And how do you feel about the state of your mouth? That’s what we try to figure out every day. We work with patients to restore their teeth, but we also want to know how you feel about your smile.

Today we have a special quiz for you that highlights both restorative and cosmetic dental procedures. We want to see how much you know about modern oral health, so you can begin reviewing the best ways to keep your smile healthy for the rest of your life. Don’t worry, there is nothing on the line with this quiz. We just want you to start thinking about the different ways in which you can restore your smile.

1.) What’s the least amount time it takes to place a permanent dental crown?
A. One visit
B. Two visits
C. Three visits
D. None of the above

2.) The only way to straighten teeth is with metal brackets and wires.
A. True
B. False

3.) You can replace missing teeth with the following:
A. Dentures
B. Bridges
C. Dental implants
D. All of the above.

4.) Tooth decay is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults.
A. True
B. False

5.) Jaw pains and headaches can be resolved by a dentist.
A. True
B. False

Here are your answers:

1.) A. One visit. Typical dental offices will place dental crowns over two of three visits, but our offices have special CEREC technology that allows us to place dental crowns in just one visit. The CEREC machine allows us to take impressions and fabricate the crown in one visit. All told, you’re in the office for about 90 minutes to 2 hours, and you’ll leave with a natural-looking, permanent restoration. That’s a drastic improvement over spending several weeks wearing an ill-fitting temporary crown.

2.) B. False. Traditional metal brackets and wires are a great way to straighten teeth. They can achieve dramatic tooth movement. But they ARE NOT the only way to straighten teeth. Our practice uses a more subtle way to straighten teeth. Invisalign is an incredible tool that uses clear aligners to gradually straighten teeth. These aligners are virtually invisible and removable. Instead of having fixed material on your teeth, you can remove the aligners for eating and cleaning. During Invisalign, you’ll swap out your aligners about once every two weeks until your teeth reach a better position.

3.) D. All of the above. All of these methods can be used to replace missing teeth. However, some dental offices favor one of these methods over the others. In the case of Winnipeg Square Dental, we recommend replacing missing teeth with dental implants, but ultimately you need to explore what’s best for you. Dental implants can be used to replace single missing teeth or entire arches of missing teeth. We specifically prefer using dental implants over bridges because the procedure is less invasive. A bridge is supported by healthy teeth adjacent to the gap caused by the missing tooth. To place the bridge, we need to file down the healthy teeth. Dental implants address the missing teeth and do not interfere with your remaining healthy teeth. We also use dental implants to stabilize dentures.

4.) B. False. You hear us dentists speak about tooth decay often, but it’s not the leading cause of tooth loss. Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is the leading cause of tooth loss. Gum disease occurs when an infection is present in the gums. When that infection is not addressed, it can spread throughout the mouth and even make its way to the bone. The infection can then compromise the bone and cause the tooth to become loose or fail.

5.) A. True. Jaw pains and headaches can be caused by a problem with the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Our office is trained to provide appliances that help ease the tension off the TMJ. Our oral TMJ appliances, which are typically worn at night, force the lower jaw into a more appropriate position, alleviating your headaches and jaw pains. Most patients report seeing their symptom relieve a few nights after they begin wearing the device. A dysfunction TMJ can cause grinding and clenching, which can cause abnormal wear on your teeth.

I hope this quiz shed some light on the different ways in which you can maintain a healthier, more beautiful smile. Contact our office today to schedule a visit at one of our state-of-the-art locations.

Patient Reviews:

I started my Invisalign treatment with Dr. Jeal in February this year. I got my retainer in October. The whole treatment is very efficient and effective. It only takes 8 months to get to the result I want which is very impressive. Dr. Jeal and the staff are super patient. The plan also includes a lot of additional treatments such as teeth cleaning and whitening. I do recommend to get your Invisalign treatment here as the price is reasonable and you get really good service.

I have been seeing Dr.Jeal and his team @ Winnipeg Square Dental for approx 2 years. I am a real person with a real job and real life around me. The team at WSD really did change my life. Not only do they operate with honesty and integrity, they also make you feel like you are definately at the right place. They treat me like they remember my name, because they actually do. Every quote I have recieved (3 so far) has turned into a much smaller bill as they will only do what's nescassary. The smile I got from these folks is much more than I could ever have hoped. I would recommend Winnipeg Square Dental to everyone I know, they will not dissapoint. Truly great people, Thank you WSD :)

I first reached out to Winnipeg Square Dental years ago about the Invisalign treatment. I was hesitant and unsure due to the commitment and finances it required. Charlene was someone I was in regular contact in. There was never any pressure - in fact, I never felt judged, I felt taken care of and understood with my apprehensions. I am actually now finished my Invisalign journey, and the results are this beautiful smile I have always dreamed about having. The results are priceless. I cannot even begin how good it feels to smile! I had always been insecure to smile with my teeth - making it a habit to cover my mouth whenever I smiled. I deeply appreciate and feel so much gratitude to the team at Winnipeg Square Dental Centre, to Alyssa and Dr. Jeal. Especially to my favourite human being, Charlene. Thanks for being the awesome individuals you all are.
Truly a unique and wonderful environment; I came in hesitant and nervous about the Invisalign treatment but throughout the course of the year everyone at Winnipeg Square Dental has made me feel comfortable and welcomed. A big shoutout to everyone who works there in helping me feel confident about my smile and making a huge difference in my life!
